1. Fold in half both ways and unfold
Place the paper wide, white side up. Fold the bottom edge to the top edge and unfold, then fold the left edge to the right edge and unfold.
2. Fold the four corners in
Fold each of the four corners in so that the short edges lie on the horizontal centre crease. You get four triangles.
3. Fold in half
Fold the bottom half up along the centre crease. The triangles go inside and you get a trapezoid.
4. Fold both ends up
Fold the left end up along a slanted line from the middle of the bottom folded edge. Do the same with the right end: the two ends meet at the top and make a diamond.
5. Fold in half (mountain)
Fold the left half behind along the vertical centre line to make a triangle. The pocket is hidden inside.
6. Hold it ready
Turn the paper so that the corner where the two long points meet is at the bottom right, and pick it up. Hold that corner and swing it down hard — BANG! Done!

Finished!
Well done! Watch it again or try another model.
Make it bang
- Hold the corner where the two long points meet tightly between thumb and finger. Raise your arm above your head and swing it down hard and fast.
- The air pushes the pocket folded inside so that it snaps out all at once — BANG!
- To pop it again, push the pocket back inside along its creases.
- Thinner paper and a faster swing make a louder bang. Thick paper does not snap well.
- Never pop it close to someone’s ears or face.
