Story

This pointed paper crown appears in a kindergarten activity book from 1882. A Chinese book from 1914 presents the related form as a penholder. This guide follows Margaret Campbell’s 1937 preparation: two rounds of corner folds, then two hidden tips drawn out from the layers. Its first folder is not known.

Did you know? Two central points overlap while the crown is flat. Spread them front and back and all four peaks appear around the hollow centre.

Steps at a glance

  1. 1. Find the centre

    Crease both diagonals and unfold.

  2. 2. Corners to the centre

Fold each of the four corners to the centre.

  3. 3. Corners behind once more

Fold the four new corners to the centre behind.

  4. 4. Fold diagonally in half

Fold the small square diagonally in half and turn its long edge to the bottom.

  5. 5. Pull out both tips

Ease the hidden right and left corner tips up from between the layers.

  6. 6. Open the four-pointed crown

Gently separate the two central points toward the front and back. The end points move with them, opening a hollow surrounded by four peaks.
