Story
The piano belongs to a family of furniture folds that grew out of the traditional paper house. A sofa made this way first appears in an American kindergarten guide from around 1882, and from 1931 on Japanese origami books call a similar fold a “piano” or an “organ”. Nobody knows who first thought of it.
Did you know? A 1939 Spanish-language book named it “piano o sofá” — piano or sofa — as if the same fold could be either one!
