1. Fold in half and unfold
White side up. Fold the bottom edge to the top edge and unfold, then the left edge to the right edge and unfold, to make a cross of creases.
2. Fold the four corners to the centre
Fold each of the four corners to the centre point. You get a smaller square.
3. Turn it to sit square
Keep the four folded triangles facing you and turn the paper an eighth of a turn, so that its edges are at the top and bottom.
4. Fold the sides to the centre
Fold the left and right edges in to meet on the centre line, like closing two doors.
5. Crease the top and bottom
Fold the top edge and then the bottom edge to the middle, creasing well, and unfold each again.
6. Pull out the bottom corners
Fold the bottom edge up to the middle along its crease while pulling the two hidden corners out to the sides as points. Press it flat.
7. Pull out the top corners
Do the same at the top: fold the top edge down to the middle while pulling the two hidden corners out to the sides, and press flat. You get a long hexagon.
8. Pull up the hidden sail
In the slit along the right half of the middle line, where the two strips meet, one of the corners you folded to the centre at the start is hiding, folded up. Pull it out of the slit and lay it open upward: a big triangle, folded in half.
9. Fold in half behind
Mountain-fold along the middle, where the two strips meet: the top half of the boat goes behind the bottom half, but the triangle stays standing up. It is the sail, folded in half, with its straight upright edge over the middle of the boat.
10. Stand it up: done
Stand the boat up on its bottom edge, keeping the two boats folded together under the sail. Your double boat with a sail is done!
1. Fold in half and unfold
White side up. Fold the bottom edge to the top edge and unfold, then the left edge to the right edge and unfold, to make a cross of creases.

Finished!
Well done! Watch it again or try another model.
Play with it
- An identical triangle hides along the left half of the top edge. Pull it up too and the boat has two sails.
- Draw a name or a flag on the sail.
- Old pictures show the two hulls spread a little. Real paper bends slightly to do that; here the hulls stay folded together so the sail stands straight.
